Description
For the first time, a separate book in Belarusian opens to readers the poetry of Giedre Kazlauskaitė, one of the brightest and most influential figures in Lithuanian poetry. This book consists of her selected poems from three original collections, Meninos (2014), Singerstraum (2016) and Gintaro kambarys (2018), as well as several previously unpublished works.
Kazlauskaitė’s poetry deals with sensitive and often forgotten topics that are uncomfortable for Lithuanian society: the representation of collective and individual historical memory, the history of Lithuanian Jews, women’s history and tradition (especially through sewing), motherhood, lesbianism, alcoholism, criticism of radicalism and ecology.
Her poetry is narrative, fictional, written in free verse, but nevertheless the author keeps to a subtle internal rhythm. The poet stands out for her openness and courage: in her poetic texts she actualizes the inner dramas and comedies of a woman in a patriarchal society.
