Description
1997. Major Reacher is sent to Mississippi, to the small town of Carter Crossing, located near the Fort Kelham military base. However, problems arose not on the base itself, but in the town itself – in an alley near a popular bar, where soldiers on leave often spend time, found the body of a young girl.
Someone brutally murdered a beautiful woman and left her lying in a pool of blood. Who is behind the crime – a deranged soldier or someone from the local community, which, as always in the southern United States, is divided into black and white? The local sheriff is trying to solve a complicated case, not noticing the connection to previous crimes, but also not wanting the military police to stick their noses into the investigation.
So Reacher goes to the scene of the crime, disguised as a retired soldier turned rebel, to get an unhindered look at a dark and dangerous case. His command requires him to conduct a covert investigation and, if the military is guilty, to cover up the truth. But will Reacher’s heightened sense of justice allow the crime to go unpunished? And will this choice in this case not be the end of his military career?
