Description
This book is a unique, popular science photo album-catalogue dedicated to the ethnographic expedition led in 1928 by the outstanding Belarusian public figure and scholar Vacklaŭ Lastoŭski.
The expedition covered the territories of Sluččyna and Mazyrščyna and aimed to record and preserve the images of traditional Belarusian culture before political processes would change it.
The album includes about 300 unique photographs documenting national costume, samples of ancient weaving, rural architecture, and objects of peasant life, as well as sacral art.
These materials hold immense historical value, as they were taken immediately before the wave of repressions and changes of the 1930s. The album miraculously survived and was published based on the fund of the Francišak Skaryna Belarusian Library and Museum in London. The book is a true treasure trove for researchers and everyone interested in the heritage of Belarus.
