Description
Karl Kaściuška-Valužynič (1847–1907) was a renowned archaeologist. He is called the “archon” (ruler) of Chersonesos, as he dedicated his entire life to the excavation and preservation of this “dead city.” The archaeologist’s birthplace is the village of Novaie Sialo in the Drissa district of the Vitebsk province (now Verkhnyadzvinsk district, Vitebsk region).
The book is part of the “Our Famous Compatriots” series. This biographical sketch includes information on the history of ancient Chersonesos. Dr. Alla Ramančuk, a Doctor of Historical Sciences, spent many years researching the archives and the work of Kaściuška-Valužynič. Valer Jarmolenka is a Belarusian geographer and local historian who writes extensively about famous Belarusians who have left their mark on world history.
