Description
The literary genre of cyberpunk remained in the 1990s. All of its literary sequels that we see around are the development of the genre with the prefix “post.” “Pentacquantar” is just such a post-cyberpunk novel, an unabashed and large-scale technothriller that walks in the footsteps of Neal Stephenson’s “Cryptonomicon” and “Blizzard,” carrying the scars of Michael Crichton’s “Andromeda Means Death” and William Gibson’s “Neuromancer” at heart.
Although “Pentakwantar” is the author’s debut, Arciom Šukanaŭ approached the plot with aplomb. The action takes place in the Buddhist temples of hot Laos and on the rainy, neon streets of Kyoto. From the concrete jungles of Minsk-3, located on the eastern borders of the Intermarium, we have to move to the Maldives, and from there, when the story gets too tight on Earth, across the Indian Ocean – to the great flower of the Red Plumeria, the lower station of the space elevator, from where the characters will begin their farthest journey towards the planet Juniper.
This is the debut novel, whose author is Arciom Šukanaŭ. Once upon a time he asked himself, “And what have I done for cyberpunk at my age?” and decided to hijack something significant. Without worrying about the consequences, he kicked down the literary door with his foot, immediately presenting readers with a comprehensive and epic science-fiction novel.
