Description
This satirical story by a famous English writer describes the life of a pack of animals banished from Manor Farm by its cruel owner Mr. Jones. Freedom and equality among the animals quickly turned into the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon. Orwell brilliantly showed the process of rebirth of communist principles of classless society and democracy into a utopia of totalitarianism and violence.
As Ukrainian literary scholar Rostislav Semkiv writes, he identified the story with the Soviet Communist Party, so there were rumors that Stalin read the story and was personally offended, and Orwell did not die at the age of forty-seven from tuberculosis at all. An unprecedented number of copies were sold in Britain, where, having heard Churchill’s expressive remarks, people began to fear the “red menace” after Hitler’s aggression. Orwell became instantly famous all over the world.
