Description
The figure of Vaclaŭ Lastoŭski — a self-taught polymath and a true pioneer who established new forms and approaches in many fields of Belarusian studies — stands out prominently against the backdrop of the cultural development of the 1920s. Reflecting the multiplicity of Lastoŭski’s activities, this collection presents an interdisciplinary approach to his work. Perhaps for the first time, Lastoŭski emerges as a sociolinguist, art historian, and philosopher, while the reception of his work is thoroughly explored.
Alongside the central figure of Lastoŭski, the book examines other significant figures who laid the foundations of Belarusian linguistics (J. Karski), literary studies (M. Harecki), and ethnography (A. Šliubski).
