“Cremulator” is the most famous novel by Saša Filipienka. The work received the prestigious French award Trasnfuge as the best European novel of 2023.
The novel begins with the events of June 23, 1941, when the offensive of the German army launches in the USSR another wave of the fight against spies. The work immerses the reader in the atmosphere of the 1930s and is based on the materials of the investigative case of the first director of the Moscow crematorium Peter Ilyich Nesterenko, through the testimony and diaries of which you can trace the fate of the man against the background of the landmark events of the first half of the twentieth century: wars and revolution, emigration and return to the USSR times of terror. The author explores the inner world of a man faced with an impossible choice.
Saša Filipienka (born in 1984) is a Belarusian with tremendous journalistic experience. He is published in the world-class press and actively defends common sense and humanity.
Saša Filipienka’s novels have been translated into French, German, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Italian, English, Croatian, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese, Swedish, Slovak, Thai, Turkish (and Korean in the near future). They are written in Russian, but were re-created in Belarusian this year.
