In the stuffy Miensk of 2022, crushed by repressions, with empty advertising columns and full prison vans, dreadful news spread through the closed community – the Hiłdzyja haradskich var”jataŭ (Guild of City Lunatics): behind the children’s railway station, Žanna Tancen, a bohemian butterfly and participant in the mass demonstrations of the 2020 revolution, was strangled by an infernal mechanism. A malicious force of unknown origin is also targeting another urban legend – the street singer Kamaroŭskaja Prymadonna.

The Miensk police, busy hunting down political opponents, files the mysterious murder away. The Piśmienny clan of Miensk takes up the case – Jakub Piśmienny, a dubious rentier and hopeless bachelor; his shrewd consigliere Arkadź Tabibułajeŭ; and also his dead grandmother, Chania Piśmiennaja, who during her lifetime was the impresario for almost all the city’s lunatics.
