Description
“Strój” is an exhibition and catalogue of reconstructions of historical and traditional costumes from various eras of Belarus: from the majestic princesses of Polotsk to the authentic peasant women of Polesia. All costumes are reconstructed with scientific accuracy using authentic techniques — embroidery, weaving, sewing, and plaiting.
What did an 11th-century princess of Polotsk look like? What could the young Queen Bona Sforza have worn? What image did a noblewoman choose during the dramatic years of the 1863–1864 Uprising?
How many millions of cross-stitches are needed to revive a traditional Belarusian shirt from Kalinkavičy? Gold-woven silk ribbons, corsets and crinolines, exquisite costumes of Belarusian peasant women, the creation of which takes months and even years of painstaking work — all this awaits you at the exhibition.
Each costume is not just an artistic object, but the result of deep scientific research. All models are restored using authentic techniques: from weaving and cutting to fine plaiting and embroidery. Every element of clothing and accessory has a counterpart in historical sources.
Be inspired by the talent and taste of our ancestors!
