For the first time, the novellas “The Dead Feel No Pain” and “Liquidation” were published without censorial cuts after the author’s death — in 2014. It was expected that from then on, Bykaŭ’s works would be published exclusively in such a version, immune to censorship. However, these hopes turned out to be in vain — Vasil Bykaŭ was and still is printed with edits and cuts.

And this book, which will be released in Białystok in January, is only the second uncensored edition. This is a rare case for Belarusian literature — for a work, even decades later, to be released without any interference from censorship. And it is still unique in the fate of the author of “The Dead Feel No Pain” and “Liquidation.”
