Description
The biggest technogenic disaster on the territory of Belarus. A tragedy both unexpected and expected. On April 10, 1942, the breach of the Mahilioŭ Dam resulted in a flood on the Dubravienka River, which went down in history as the “Mogilev Tsunami.” Several hundred to several thousand people fell victim to the elements; one hundred and fifteen residential homes were swept away by the waves and crushed by meter-high ice floes, dozens of others were damaged, and in many others – people choked and drowned in their own rooms without managing to get outside. The flood lasted only twenty minutes, and it was twenty minutes of foreboding screams, terrifying rumbles, moans, wails and cries….
The publication you hold in your hands is an attempt to collect in one volume everything we know about this disaster and what we can see with our own eyes thanks to photographs from the collection of Alieh David Lisoŭski.
