Description
“Actually, this book is about people who are afraid to live, afraid to fight, afraid to speak out, afraid to be like their mothers, afraid to fall off a horse, afraid to admit the obvious, afraid to break up with a drug addict, afraid to suffer, afraid to get into an accident, afraid to put a comma in the wrong place, afraid to be sensitive, afraid of renters, afraid of jellyfish, afraid of singing in the street to passersby and not paying tolls, afraid to breathe, afraid to be late, afraid to show up early, afraid to leave a bad play in the middle of a performance, afraid to make a mistake, afraid to point out a mistake, afraid to believe, afraid of critics and commentators, afraid to go to parent-teacher conferences, afraid to protect their boundaries, afraid not to be afraid, afraid to get a job, afraid to rush, afraid of turbulence, afraid she’ll never call again, afraid to be afraid to admit he’s still the one for her, afraid of war, afraid to be sensitive, afraid to overreact, afraid to misspeak in another language, afraid of escalators, afraid of not standing up, afraid of not being strong enough that someone else will do it better, afraid of being honest, afraid of reading what he wrote, afraid of putting off bad books, afraid of missing a beat, afraid of pretending, and afraid of loving for real.”
