Description

The essay anthology “I Come to You, People” is dedicated to the theme of neighborhood in both broad and narrow senses. This book features essays by eighteen contemporary Belarusian women authors: those remaining in Belarus and those who, after 2020, due to increased political repression targeting people of letters, were forced to leave and live abroad.

The writers reflect on how we feel among people of other cultures or those similar to us, how we perceive one another and influence each other, and what we learn through neighborhood about the culture of communication, daily life, and our identity as individuals raised in Belarus.

As a sign of our times and the political crisis in the country, some writers publish under pseudonyms for safety reasons; therefore, biographical information about them is unfortunately absent from this collection.
