Katrina Zile’s novel “Dear Bones” is the life story of a woman who keeps the bones of two men in a wall unit in her home. In this atmospheric work, steeped in magical realism, the everyday life of Vilnius’s residential districts intertwines with Lithuanian folklore.

The time of the novel is undefined and symbolic. Here, life is welcomed and seen off in the sauna of an apartment building, shepherds ride trolleybuses to the pastures, animals are kept in flats, and bread is baked right on the stairwell, near the mailboxes. In this house, rituals are performed and miracles occur.
